Abstract

ABSTRACT

Seventeen strains of (Prévot) isolated from soil and fatal infections in cattle, swine, chickens, alligators, and from other sources are described. Strains of this species are proteolytic, nonsacc harolytic, slightly toxic, and pathogenic for laboratory animals, and produce acetic acid from peptone media as the only major acid. Large quantities of amines are also produced. Four strains representing variant types of the species could be differentiated from the others by serologic reactions, differences in cell wall composition and amine products.
