The newly described species is phenotypically similar to strains of Staphylococcus simulans, but has low levels of deoxyribonucleic acid-deoxyribonucleic acid homology (<10%) with S. simulans JCM 2424T and related staphylococci. S. felis strains were coagulase negative and susceptible to novobiocin and bacitracin. A simple scheme for the differentiation of S. felis from related staphylococci is presented. The type strain is strain GD521 (= ATCC 49168 = JCM 7469). %U https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/ijsem/10.1099/00207713-39-4-373
