On the basis of the special features of these strains, we propose that they should be placed in a new genus, Chromohalobacter, which includes a single species, Chromohalobacter marismortui comb, nov., nom. rev. The deoxyribonucleic acid base composition is 62.1 to 64.9 mol% guanine plus cytosine.
