Abstract

Abstract

16S ribosomal DNA analysis indicates that is a phylogenetic neighbor of and that this pair of organisms branches intermediately between the genus on the one side and the genera and on the other side. Phenotypically, strains of differ from species of by exhibiting aerobic growth and possessing arabinose in the cell wall, they differ from species of and by the formation of propionic acid, and they differ from species of in morphology. Consequently, should not be classified with authentic species, and the transfer of Pitcher and Collins 1991 to a new genus, , as gen. nov., comb. nov. is proposed.
