Abstract

The Gram-stain-negative, yellow-pigmented, rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated S11-41, was isolated from a sediment sample of the Yellow Sea in China. The strain was able to grow well over a wide temperature range (1–35 °C). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain S11-41 was related to the members of the genus , sharing highest sequence similarities with the type strains of (98.2 %), (97.4 %) and (96.9 %). The genomic DNA G+C content of strain S11-41 was 39.2 mol%. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C (13.2 %), iso-C 3-OH (12.8 %) and iso-C G (12.2 %). Phosphatidylethanolamine was identified as the major polar lipid. Combined data from phenotypic, phylogenetic and DNA–DNA relatedness studies demonstrated that strain S11-41 is a representative of a novel species of the genus , for which we propose the name sp. nov. (type strain S11-41 = DSM 28135 = LMG 28076).
