Abstract

A Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacterial strain, designated Gsoil 068, was isolated from soil of a ginseng field in Pocheon Province (South Korea), and was characterized to determine its taxonomic position by using a polyphasic approach. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain Gsoil 068 belonged to the family , class , and was related most closely to ATCC 29482 and ATCC 29489 (96.1 % sequence similarity). The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain Gsoil 068 was 67.0 mol%. The detection of a quinone system with ubiquinone Q-8 as the predominant component and a fatty acid profile with iso-C, iso-C 9, iso-C and iso-C 3-OH as the major components supported the affiliation of strain Gsoil 068 to the genus . On the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain Gsoil 068 is considered to represent a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Gsoil 068 (=KCTC 12601 =DSM 17927).
