Abstract

A novel actinomycete strain, designated MS498, was isolated from an ocean sediment sample collected from the South China Sea. It was subjected to a polyphasic analysis to determine its taxonomic position. The phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain MS498 had the highest similarity (96.5 %) with members of the genus and was loosely associated with DSM 43194 and DSM 44411. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, phenotypic characteristics and chemotaxonomic data, the new isolate is proposed to represent a novel species of the genus , named sp. nov. (type strain MS498=CCTCC AA 208056 =DSM 45268).
