Abstract

The synonymy of the genera and was recently reported, but it was proposed that the later-named genus, , take priority in nomenclature. There is no justification in the (Prokaryotes) for this step; is the correct name of the genus, with as the type species. Species previously allocated to are here proposed as the new combinations , , , , , , , and . was proposed in 2002 [ Wang, E. T., Tan, Z. Y., Willems, A., Fernández-López, M., Reinhold-Hurek, B. & Martínez-Romero, E., , 1687–1693, 2002 ], but a consideration of all published data indicate that it is a nitrogen-fixing genomovar and later heterotypic synonym of . A Request for an Opinion is made as to whether or not the combination ‘’ ( Casida 1982 ) Willems . 2003 is legitimate.
