Abstract

was proposed by Yachai (2008), with a single strain, HPC1-2 ( = BCC 24372  = JCM 14661  = PCU 302), which was isolated from fermented fish (pla-ra) in Thailand. According to Yachai (2008), the strain was closely related to based on 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons and could be differentiated by low DNA–DNA relatedness values and different biochemical profiles compared with other species of the genus. The reanalysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences and the DNA–DNA relatedness among JCM 14661 and strains JCM 8978, R1 and NRC-1 revealed that they all had exactly the same 16S rRNA gene sequence and shared more than 70 % DNA–DNA relatedness. In addition, the full-length DNA-dependent RNA polymerase subunit B (RpoB) protein sequence of JCM 14661 (607 amino acids) was the same as that of JCM 8978 and showed 94.7 and 96.7 % similarities with those of JCM 15102 and JCM 13558, respectively. Despite the different biochemical properties described by Yachai (2008), the characteristic phenotypic properties of agreed with those in the description of emended by Gruber (2004). Therefore, Yachai (2008) should be regarded as a later heterotypic synonym of Elazari-Volcani 1957.
