Abstract

A Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic rod with a polar flagellum, designated strain JYr13, was isolated from coastal sediment of an amphioxus breeding zone located in Qingdao, China. The isolate utilized Fe(III) oxyhydroxide, Fe(III) citrate, SeO and SeO as electron acceptors. Strain JYr13 grew optimally at 25–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0 and in presence of 3 % (w/v) NaCl. Strain JYr13 contained menaquinone-7 and ubiquinones Q-7 and Q-8 as the predominant isoprenoid quinones, and Cω9, iso-C, Cω8 and C as the major fatty acids. The DNA G+C content of strain JYr13 was 59 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the closest phylogenetic neighbour of strain JYr13 was DSM 18153 (96.0 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). Based on the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain JYr13 is considered to represent a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is JYr13 ( = DSM 23317 = LMG 25564).
