Abstract

A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, aerobic and reddish-pigmented strain, designated HME8442, was isolated from a mesotrophic artificial lake. The strain grew optimally at 30 °C and pH 7 on R2A agar. The major fatty acid was iso-C. The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid and three unidentified polar lipids. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The DNA G+C content was 35.8 mol%. Strain HME8442 was closely related to HU1-HG42 (94.4 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity) and HU1-GD23 (93.9 %). The phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HME8442 formed a lineage within the genus . On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME8442 represents a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME8442 ( = KACC 17314 = CECT 8289).
