Abstract

A Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain LBY, was isolated from the blood of a Korean patient. The organism could not be identified based on conventional clinical microbiological methods. 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis revealed that it belonged to the genus , but was distinct from recognized species. Strain LBY was related most closely to the type strains of and , with 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 96.2 and 95.4 %, respectively. The major fatty acids of strain LBY were anteiso-C (43.8 %), C (10.4 %), iso-C (10.3 %), iso-C (9.2 %) and anteiso-C (8.3 %). On the basis of biochemical characteristics, fatty acid composition and comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain LBY is considered to represent a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is LBY (=ABB-ID-KSY9=KCTC 13165=JCM 14798).
