Abstract

Previous studies have proposed that is an earlier heterotypic synonym for and . In this study, phylogenetic analysis of the almost complete 16S rRNA gene sequences of the type strains NBRC 13344, JCM 4014 and NRRL B-2194 revealed that was closely related to and not to or any other species of the genus . Moreover, the diagnostic cell-wall diamino acid was found to be -diaminopimelic acid in and DNA–DNA hybridization studies revealed that NBRC 13344 was a member of the same species as NBRC 14455. Based on these chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, it is proposed that ( Baldacci 1944 ) Pridham 1958 be reclassified as a heterotypic synonym of Tamura 2000 . Furthermore, based on phylogenetic, morphological and MALDI-TOF MS analyses, it is proposed that the species Manfio 2004 and Wallick 1956 are reclassified as later heterotypic synonyms of Smith 1956 .
