Abstract

A Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacterium (strain HLT3-15) was isolated from the ice tongue surface of the Hailuogou glacier in Szechwan Province, PR China. Phylogenetic analysis, based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, revealed that strain HLT3-15 belonged to the genus . The highest levels of sequence similarities were found with CGMCC 4.6881 and CGMCC 4.6875 (98.5 % and 98.3 %, respectively). However, DNA–DNA relatedness demonstrated that strain HLT3-15 was distinct from its closest phylogenetic neighbours. The major cellular fatty acids of strain HLT3-15 were Cω8 and iso-C. Strain HLT3-15 contained -2,6-diaminopimelic acid as the diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan and MK-8(H) as the predominant menaquinone. On the basis of a polyphasic approach, a novel species, sp. nov., is proposed with HLT3-15 ( = CGMCC 1.11097 = NBRC 109781) as the type strain.
