Abstract

A novel, Gram-stain-negative, motile, facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated strain NF48, was isolated from surface seawater around Zhoushan Islands. Cells were rod-shaped (1.1–3.9×0.5–0.9 µm). Strain NF48was able to grow at 10–40 °C (optimum 30 °C), at pH 5.5–9.0 (optimum 6.5–8.0) and with 0.5–7.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 2.0 %). The genomic DNA G+C content was 65.5 mol%. Chemotaxonomic analysis showed that the main isoprenoid quinone was Q-10 and the major fatty acids were C 7 and C. The major polar lipids of strain NF48were phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain NF48 belonged to the genus with similarity values of 95.5–97.2 % to members of this genus, and was most closely related to SS011A0-7#2-2 (97.2 %). On the basis of the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic characteristics, strain NF48is suggested to represent a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is NF48 (=MCCC 1K01157=KCTC 42650).
