Abstract

Two Gram-stain-negative, aerobic and endophytic bacterial strains, designated YC7033 and YC7034, were isolated from the roots of halophytes ( and , respectively) inhabiting tidal flats of the Sacheon area, Korea. The phylogenetic analyses of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the two strains were closely related to YC6887, BM9-1, BM5-7 and DSM 17316 at 97.6–99.1 % similarity. Sequence similarities with the type strains of another closely related genus, , were lower than 95.0 %. Both strains contained ubiquinone-10 (Q-10) as the major respiratory quinone system. The G+C contents of the genomic DNA of strains YC7033 and YC7034 were 52.8 and 62.2 mol%, respectively. The major fatty acids of both strain YC7033 and strain YC7034 were summed feature 8 (C 7 and/or C 6) and C cyclo 8. On the basis of phylogenetic analysis, and biochemical and phenotypic characteristics, strains YC7033 and YC7034 represent two novel species of the genus , for which the names sp. nov. (type strain: YC7033=KACC 17175=NBRC 109440) and sp. nov. (type strain: YC7034=KACC 17176=NBRC 109441) are proposed, respectively.
