Abstract

A new genus and species, , is proposed for two closely related strains formerly assigned to () The following characteristics are important for defining the genus a type IV cell wall composition (presence of -diaminopimelic acid, arabinose, and galactose); lack of mycolates; phospholipid type PII (presence of phosphatidylethanolamine); menaquinone MK-8(H) as the major menaquinone; iso- and anteiso-branched fatty acids; and a guanine-plus-cytosine content of 72 mol%. is readily differentiated from morphologically similar members of the and by phospholipid composition and menaquinone composition, respectively. In addition, it can be distinguished from and species by low levels of deoxyribonucleic acid-deoxyribonucleic acid homology (12 to 15 and 7 to 10%, respectively) and a number of physiological characteristics. The type strain of is strain VKM Ac-1069 (= DSM 43089).
