abstract= The valid publication of names and combinations in a single journal was one of the innovations in the 1975 revision of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria. A number of assumptions are often made with regards the way names or combinations are evaluated as being validly published. A re-examination of the process of valid publication is appropriate.,
