Abstract

Strain Dae16, a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped bacterium, was isolated from the soil of a ginseng field in South Korea and characterized in order to determine its taxonomic position. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain Dae16 belongs to the and had the highest degree of sequence similarity to ATCC 29489 (97·1 %), DSM 2044 (96·6 %), DSM 2043 (96·2 %), KCTC 12205 (94·7 %) and ATCC 29482 (93·7 %). Chemotaxonomic data revealed that strain Dae16 possesses a quinone system with Q-8 as the predominant compound and C iso, C iso and C iso 9 as the predominant iso-branched fatty acids, all of which corroborated the assignment of the strain to the genus . Results of DNA–DNA hybridization and physiological and biochemical tests clearly demonstrated that strain Dae16 represents a distinct species. Based on these data, it is proposed that Dae16 (=KCTC 12204=NBRC 101156) should be classified as the type strain of a novel species, sp. nov.
