Abstract

A Gram-stain-negative, curved rod-shaped and non-pigmented strain, HME8277, was isolated from surface seawater of the Yellow Sea in the Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the novel strain was related most closely to MED297 (96.4 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), IMCC4489 (96.3 %) and KMM 3655 (95.8 %). The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 (comprising Cω7 and/or Cω6; 43.0 %), C (19.0 %) and summed feature 8 (comprising Cω7 and/or Cω6; 15.0 %). The DNA G+C content was 46.1 mol%. The predominant respiratory quinone was Q-8. The major polar lipids of strain HME8277 comprised diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, four unidentified phospholipids and four unidentified lipids. On the basis of polyphasic analyses, strain HME8277 represents a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain HME8277 ( = KACC 17315 = CECT 8288). An emended description of the genus is also provided.
