Abstract

A novel actinomycete (strain HNM0071) was isolated from an unidentified marine sponge collected from the coast of Sanya City, PR China and its taxonomic position was investigated. The major menaquinones were MK-9 (H) (65.6 %), MK-9 (H) (23.8 %) and MK-9 (H) (10.6 %). The predominant fatty acids were anteiso-C (25.5 %), iso-C (19.5 %) and iso-C (15.4 %). The predominant phospholipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine. In addition, four unidentified phospholipids were found. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 69.8 mol%. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain HNM0071 was most closely related to FX61 (97.3 %). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to all other species of the genus was less than 97.0 %. DNA–DNA hybridization between strain HNM0071 and its closest phylogenetic relative, FX61, showed 25.0 % relatedness. Based on phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, strain HNM0071 represents a novel species of the genus whose name is proposed as sp. nov. The type strain is HNM0071 ( = CCTCCAA2015018 = KCTC 39604).
